5 Must-Have Home Features for Pets

If you are a pet owner, you already know that our pets are considered part of the family. That means they have their own special set of accommodation requirements. Check out 5 of our favorite features to include in your new home to make your life easier and your pet's life more enjoyable!

1. Pet Bathing Station

Many pet owners have already put a bathing area in the mudroom/laundry/garage on their 'must-have' list for their new home. If you have a pet, we don't have to tell you the benefits of NOT having to bathe your furry friend in your own bathtub (think, no leftover hair, no slippery escapees, etc.). Instead, pets can walk-in to the bathing area without having to be hoisted over the edge of a tub. You can use a handheld showerhead and hooks to keep your pet -- and the water -- inside the tub!

2. Pot-Filler Water Station + Food Station

We love it when clients choose to add a pot-filler to a dedicated area in the home for their pets. This is great for quick and easy refills, without having to carry, and most likely spill, water everywhere. Along with that, having a built-in feeding area can be a great option for when you don't have a lot of space or don't want your kitchen aesthetic ruined.

3. Pet Door

While pet doors are not a new concept, say goodbye to the old and notoriously dirty in/out flimsy flaps on the door. There are so many better options now that are not only more attractive but do a better job of keeping unwanted creatures and hot/cold air out.

4. Catio

Yes, a 'cat patio' is called a 'catio'. If your indoor cat is constantly reminding you that it would love to join you on the back deck, consider installing a catio for your fur baby. Catios come in all shapes and sizes with different features specific to what your cat may enjoy. Some of you dog (only) lovers are eye-rolling right now -- that's ok just skip to the next one.

5. Pet Gate

As much as we love our pets, we don't always want them jumping on the counters during meal prep or begging for that piece of chicken during dinner. One way to keep this from happening without having to crate or put Fido in another room is to use a gate. But again, gates are not always pleasing to the eye. Enter, 'built-in gates.' If your space allows for it, we highly recommend dropping one of these into your plans.

After consulting with your pet, you'll have to let us know what must-have items made it on the list for your future home!
