If you own or work for a small business, you know how daunting it can be to take on social media for business. Here are just a few tips on how we’ve seen success on social channels!
There are generally two types of people in this world, those that leave reviews and those that don’t. Kidding, that’s a little dramatic! But it is true that some people will absolutely love you and your business but it will never cross their mind to leave you a review. So, ASK! You would be so surprised at how many loyal customers, colleagues, and friends would be more than willing to take a quick moment to review your business. It’s worth the ask because 68% of consumers are more likely to use a local business if there are positive reviews attached to it!
2. Quick Responses
This one can be hard because, at the end of a 12-hour workday, the last thing you feel like doing is answering a Facebook message at 10:05 at night. There are two ways to handle this. The first is to set up boundaries for you or your team when it comes to answering inquiries. If it’s within the hours you agreed on, be as quick as possible to answer the messages. Tip: Even if you don’t know the answer to an inquiry at that moment, just send a quick note letting them know you’ll get back with them. Over 40% of people expect a reply within 30 minutes of reaching out! And second, outside of those hours you set, create an automatic reply letting them know when they can expect an answer from you.
It’s true everyone loves a giveaway. Be careful here though because now that the masses have caught on, our feeds are often flooded with giveaways and contests. Try to come up with a concept that is relevant to your particular business and make sure the timing of the giveaway makes sense for you. Example: In real estate? Consider giving away a new homeowner kit or a pair of corn hole boards and running it for your 5th summer in business as a real estate agent.
Social media ads are worth running even if you only have $20 a month in your budget. Don’t only boost ads! Dig deep into Ads Manager and figure out your audiences, what creative options work best for you, and study your results. If that sounds overwhelming, Facebook offers free resources to get you started called Facebook Blueprint.
5. Activity & Authenticity
Consistency without boring repetitiveness is important when it comes to social media. You don’t have to be on every platform either - find the 1-2 that works best for you and focus on them! No matter which platforms you find yourself on, always be your true authentic self. Many business owners feel that they need to be strictly sales or business on social media when in truth, the more personal you can make your feed, the more people will connect with your brand and trust your business, which eventually will lead to sales and/or referrals.
